WHO SHOULD APPLY TO BECOME AN INSTRUCTOR?
If you scored 84 or higher AND have completed the 40-hour CIT training, you are ready to become an instructor! A CIT instructor will serve as a presenter, facilitator and, most importantly, an ambassador of the Detroit-Wayne CIT program. There are several key components that make an instructor successful, please review the requirements for eligibility.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Completed the standard 40-hour CIT training
A current or former law enforcement officer who understands the basic principles and concepts of CIT.
Has general knowledge of the stigma associated with mental health and substance use issues, and will work to educate others on these issues.
Has successfully completed the 8 hour Mental Health First Aid course.
Has experience teaching groups of adults.
Understands best practices in adult learning.
Has experience facilitating groups.
IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN GOOD STANDING, INSTRUCTORS ARE REQUIRED TO:
Teach their first module within six months of becoming an instructor.
Participate in the facilitation of specific modules within the 40-hour block at least three times annually.
Pass Quality Evaluation visits and assessments.
Maintain satisfactory participant evaluation scores.
Engage in instructor/course refresher activities as instructed.
